Enclosed are photos and a copy of an article I generated for the South Bay ARC club paper, Arc Over.

Fields days was a winner anyway you look at it. Operators who used the "GAP" position had only good comments. In the future I'll tote this antenna to different HAM homes so that we all get a chance to compare signals.

The antenna was modified somewhat to allow two permanent pre-assembled sections to mate using only one person. Screws for permanent assemble wer replaced with pop rivets and the coax was cut and furnished with SO 239's. The bottom section coax has to slide out and in for assembly which required that the access hole in the mast bottom be filed at an angle to prevent the coax covering from hanging up on sharp edges. Worked fine.

For field days no guys were used and the antenna swayed considerable during some 4 to 7 knot afternoon breezes. Some of the members were concerned but I figured that I had to know how strong this operating assembly was so that if I had too, I could use it without guys. Normally I use two guys plus the erection stick and that seems to make for a stable assembly. If it had failed I planned on rebuilding it using whole-length tubing for each section. I'm into fabrication. Besides, I've got a cheap source for material.

Naturally, my next step is a portable Voyager. I found that I really enjoy DX and am in the process of qualifying for some midwest nets. I have a particular interest in the BEEHIVE net out of Salt Lake and a Mobil home net out of North Carolina. With a Voyager I'll setup some special events sites anywhere in the U.S. I'm a camper and such a rig looks like a perfect fit.

TNX for your products. They make for a great hobby.

73's abd very best regards.
